Foundation Factory Review

With Foundation Factory you can do the following with the blocks on the CDs:

1. View library categories grouped by themes. There are multiple categories on each CD.
2. View blocks shaded in color with fabric selections.
3. Change the block size.
4. Prints blocks larger than page across multiple pages.
5. Distort the blocks using rectangle measurements instead of the square measurements.
6. Print block with foundation piecing order for each patch.
7. Flip the blocks horizontally or vertically for better placement on printed page.
8. Print Blocks in gray scale
9. Automatically add seam allowances.
10. When more than one copy of the block will fit on a page, the option to print multiple copies per page is available and the Foundation Factory has a prompt on the print screen that tells you how many will fit on a page and tells you how many pages are needed (helpful when using special foundation piecing paper, see our foundation printer paper by clicking here.)

The 3 versions of Foundation Factory CD's are stand alone block library programs (no drawing tools) that are designed for paper piecers who want to find and print blocks quickly and easily. The 3 CD's also include an interface that allows you to access any of the 3 version's blocks from the opened version.

You do not have to own Quilt-Pro to use them, but the libraries from the Standard Edition and Designer Edition by Jean Ann Eitel & Debby Kratovil editors of Quilts Magazine can be imported into Quilt-Pro 2 & Quilt-Pro 3.

Double-clicking on the Foundations Factory Program Icon opens the above screen. If you own more than version of Foundation Factory, all three versions will appear in the file management box that works like Windows Explorer.

Double-clicking on your block choice opens the Block Print Screen. (See above) The Print Screen addresses all the choices needed for printing a foundation block like:

Flip Vertical Flip Horizontal Mirror for iron on Print grays Print Dashed Lines

Print Numbers Select number of copies to print Automatically prints as many as fit to a page Prints across multiple pages for larger blocks.

Foundation Blocks can be created in Quilt-Pro 2 and 3 and saved to Foundation Factory to be printed when needed.

One of the most often questions I get is, "Does the program tell me how to make the block?" Well folks, Sewing Help has arrived in Software! Foundation Factory has Help Sewing Files that include hints and tips for sewing and construction of a large range of styles of paper piecing. The graphics include photographs of actual block construction which are very descriptive. One version even includes 5 quilts with instructions. The buttons to the left, show access to all sorts of goodies and information.

Operations

Foundation Factory runs in the standard Windows Format that we all are getting used to. It has 3 screens, the Block Selection/View Screen, the Print Screen and the Help Files Screen.

Menus and Toolbars

The built-in simplicity of Foundation Factory translates over to the Menu and Toolbars. The View Block screen uses the standard File Menu and a Help Menu only. Included are Buttons that open the Print and Help functions.

Draw Tools

No drawing tools.

Learning:

Simple and easy-to-use is the foundation (no pun intended) of this program and learning it is no exception. Instinct will lead the user most of the way through the program. There is no manual included with program, Foundation Factory's extensive and well created Help Files replace the manual. The Help files are rich with Contents, How-to for the program, Frequently Asked Questions, Quilt-Pro Demo, and How-to for sewing foundation blocks! The Help files are hyperlink rich. Hyperlink means click on an underlined subject to jump directly to additional subject material.
