the Authors
Learn the rules and then bend them. This is Jennifer's philosophy
concerning sewing and quilting. Having stitched for most of her life, Jennifer
is known for never following a pattern to the letter but changing it in some way
to make it her own. While teaching quilters for 10 years, she helped students
learn the correct techniques but then encouraged them to put their own creative
spin on their project. Jennifer combined her love of sewing with her imaginative
outlook to co-create Pure Wool Inc., a resource for needle-felting fibers, supplies
and patterns. Additional designs she created with her business partner, Linda
Lenich, appear in Hooked on Wool (Martingale Company, 2006). Jennifer's
creative viewpoint also inspires another of her hobbies: decorating. Thriftstore
adventures result in fantastic finds, and she reclaims items for everyday use
and unusual home decor. She lives with her husband, Tim, in a Chicago suburb.
Together they raised their now-adult daughters, Sara and Rachel. Linda believes
that there must be a sewing gene passed down to her through her maternal DNA,
because she comes from a long succession of women who loved to sew. Her great
grandmother was a fine seamstress; her grandmother loved to knit, crochet, embroider
and sew; and her mother sewed everything from her own wedding dress to awnings
for her home. Linda was born in Chicago and raised with the sound of her mother's
sewing machine. It was on her honeymoon, 27 years ago, that Linda and her
husband, Michael, visited her first quilt shop. Later that summer, Linda read
all she could find on quilting at her local library, joined a quilt guild and
took many workshops and classes. Eventually, Linda found herself teaching quilting
classes and working for a local quilt shop. That is where she met her friend and
future business partner, Jennifer Zoeterman. Together they have fun creating new
needle-felting supply company, Pure Wool, Inc. Linda and Michael lead a happy
and simple life in a southern suburb of Chicago.
