About the Authors

Ionne (pronounce Iona) has always been interested in what she sees and how she sees it. Her route to quilting was a circuitous one, beginning with drawing and painting. She spent six years in Australia, where she learned batik methods and fabric dyeing. After working with batik and producing many, many yards of hand-dyed fabric, she changed her focus to quilts. Her early love of traditional quilts has not left her, although these days she is also exploring more abstract ways to express her ideas. Color is the most important way to do this, and she has been teaching classes on that subject since 1997.

Ionne enjoys several different hobbies—the fairly common ones such as reading, cooking and sewing but also karate! She feels it is a good way to balance out all that sitting at the sewing machine (or glue stick!)

She lives just outside the town of Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, with her husband, daughter, two dogs, a cat, and a small flock of sheep.

Sharon can't remember when she didn't sew. Mind you, at her age, she can't remember lots of things. Her love of fabric and sewing machines led her to quiltmaking in the mid-1980s, and it has consumed her life ever since.

Her previous three books, all from Martingale & Company, Reversible Quilts (2002), More Reversible Quilts (2004) and Sensational Sashiko (2005), have opened doors for her all over North America and Great Britain, and her teaching schedule is a busy one. She enjoys traveling and teaching, but she is never happier than when she is at home in her little cabin in the woods with her husband, her five sewing machines (OK some of them are more decorative than functional, but who could resist a bone-handled, hand-crank machine?) an enormous stash of beautiful fabric, and time to play with it.
