Instruction PageIntroduction

It seems as if everyone is in a hurry these days—we quilters are no exception. We like to make quilts that can be done quickly.

Many of us have made the decision to pay a professional to machine-quilt our completed tops rather than hand-quilt them ourselves. This frees up time for us to make more quilts.

The quilts in this book take advantage of diagonal sets so not so many blocks are required to complete the pieced centers. Plain blocks and outside triangles add size but not a lot of work to completing the top.

Whether you enjoy piecing or applique, you are sure to find a One-Day Wonders to suit your needs..

Designer Cate Tallman-EvansAbout the Author

Fancy Free FlowersCate Tallman -Evans' career as a designer began completely by chance. Looking to re-enter the workforce after a long absence, designing quilts for fabric companies and magazines was the only opportunity available. Cate hoped to sell a design or two while waiting for her "real job" to show up, not realizing that it already had. Since selling her first original quilt design in 2003, Cate has worked full-time in the quilt industry producing over 60 design a year for magazines, fabric companies and her own company, 2Cats/1Cate.

Like many women, Cate came to quilting with a background in garment sewing and needle arts. But when she started quilting, she knew she had finally found her niche. Cate loves the magic of transforming raw materials into something beautiful and useful that people can enjoy. If studied, Cate is certain researchers would prove that everyone sleeps better under a quilt.

Cate tries to design every quilt with what she calls "design ease," a term borrowed from sewn and knitted garment design. In almost every case, she believes there are things she can do as a designer to make a quilt easier to construct and more forgiving of sewing imperfections. She calls this giving a quilt "design ease." Her goal is always to make the construction of her designs as fun, easy and fool-proof as possible without compromising the quality of the finished product. This philosopy was the source of the inspiration for the designs in this book. Each of these designs can be accomplished within a limited amount of time, but none of them look rushed or thrown together. Featuring a beautiful fabric in unpieced alternate blocks is a great way to cut down on the amount of time needed to complete a quilt top. Straight-stitch applique with invisible thread is also a great time saver.
