About
the AuthorKathy Delaney, with a degree in art education from
the University of Arizona, loves to teach. Beginning by teaching art to elementary
and high-school-aged children, she soon moved on the adults, teaching needlepoint
and then quilting techniques. She has been working and teaching at Prairie Point
Quilts in Shawnee, Kansas since it opened in June 1995. An
award-winning quilter, Kathy's work has been published in several books and magazines.
Raised as an Army Brat, she moved to a new home every year or so. Her final move
to Kansas in 1994 let Kathy put down her deepest roots.
Kathy
lives in Overland Park, Kansas with her husband of 30 years. Together they have
two sons, one who plans to make the theater his life's work, and one who plans
a career in the United States Army. Kathy designs patterns
for piecing and appliqué under the name of Fabric Crayon Designs. Back
Cover Information"Appliqué is painting with fabric. Your needle
and thread become your brush, and the fabric becomes your paint." So writes
quilt instructor Kathy Delaney in this definitive guide to doing hand appliqué. Kathy
walks you through the appliqué process step by step, using her beautiful
Hearts and Flowers quilt as a guide. All the instruction is here, from fabric
selection to the appropriate tools to using the proper stitch. Then Kathy offers
hints for creating the blocks themselves, each one a lovely combination of heart
and flower. Extensive use of instructional photographs makes this book one of
the best for the appliqué beginner. |
