Back Cover Information

This informative and easy to use handbook should prove valuable whether you are a curious quilter, a fabric collector, quilt collector, or an accomplished historian. Have you a quilt, block, or cloth scrap to identify? The thousands of fabric swatches presented in this guide book can help you determine a date of manufacture and something about the history of the piece. The samples represent fabrics made in the Americas from 1800 to 1960.

If you know an approximate date of a piece, you can turn to that section and compare the swatches to your fabric. A swatch may be included under the color it once was, the color it is now, or possibly both. All swatches are printed actual size so you can see the pattern scale. Unfamiliar terms are defined in a glossary and a substantial bibliography points the way to further reading and study.

Back Cover Information

Revisit an ear when quiltmaking changed from private bed covers to public works of art.

  • Over 1000 fabric swatches- From poodle skirts of the 1950s to baby doll dresses of the 1990s, the fabrics of everyday life are featured in this handy reference book
  • Reproduction fabrics guide- An informative section on the fabrics from the 1980-2000 era provides a blueprint for building confident conclusions as to the fabric's origins. The book's inner spiral binding makes the pages lie flat, and makes it easier to compare photos to fabrics
  • Quilting and clothing trends- This sequel is ideal for students of fashion and collectors of recent quilts, which often contain fabrics from more than one decade.
  • Accurate identification- prints are shown actual size, with fabric lines and styles grouped by date and color. Dating divisions are highlighted by an informative history of each era.
