About the Author

Susan McKelvey has been quilting since 1976, when she made her first quilt, a Dresden Plate. Quilting and designing steadily since then, she has produced numerous pieces that have appeared in museums, galleries, and quilt shows throughout the United States. In 1987, she started her own company, Wallflower Designs.

Today, with their two children grown, Susan and her husband live on Maryland's rural eastern shore where they and their pets enjoy all that the Chesapeake Bay has to offer. Susan lectures and teaches about appliqué, color, and signature quilts throughout the U.S. at conferences and quilt guilds.

This simple, whimsical style is reminiscent of elegant album quilts of the nineteenth century.

• 12 appliqué blocks were inspired by lovely designs found in quilts made up and down the eastern seaboard in the early to mid-1800s. Four bonus blocks are included for mix and match panache.
• Informative chapters provide tips from this well-known teacher and designer on choosing fabrics and making the blocks and border. Color considerations and stitching sequence are included for each block.
• Inking and stamping were admired features of earlier Baltimore-style quilts. Learn how to add these traditional touches to your quilts using past and present methods.
