From the AuthorOur mothers and grandmothers took time to make their surroundings beautiful with needlework and lovingly handmade items. Some of their favorite motifs were images of women enjoying leisure hours. Consider an ordinary woman in the 1930s: no machines to wash her dishes or clothes, no television, quite possibly no telephone or car. But when she sat down to stitch, she saw herself relaxing or posing prettily in a garden - or cheerfully gliding through her daily housework.
