Prayer Shawl Quilts

IntroductionFor those of us who love to quilt, every quilt we make for family and friends is an act of love. With every stitch, we are thinking about the person who will receive the quilt. There are times when a special quilt is required to fill a need, provide comfort or give someone a blessing. On such occasions, we need to let those friends, or even strangers, know that we have been praying for them. Prayer shawls originally were shawls that were knitted or crocheted, but quilters want to share their talent with those in need, too. It is for that reason that we present this collection of throws and lap quilts from designers who have a variety of faith backgrounds.
From the EditorsAs you begin to stitch the quilt, think about the recipient and how much you love and care for them. Give thanks that you have been blessed with the talent to make a gift that will give them comfort and joy. Many churches with prayer shawl ministries have a special time for presenting these gifts of love to the recipients. Whether you are part of a special prayer shawl group or are making a quilt on your own to give to someone in need, consider this time of presentations as an opportunity to give a blessing or say a prayer. To help you will this presentation, we've added a special section of prayers and blessings and also listed prayers with each of them. You may also want to use a fabric pen to write a prayer or blessing on the label that you add to the back of the quilt.
