Author Crystal Mills and Arnold TubisAbout the Authors

Crystal Mills lives in Blaine, Washington, which is at the northern end of Interstate 5, almost in Canada. She is a retired mathematics teacher and textbook editor. She loves to quilt and design wearable art. She became interested in origami when she was teaching high school mathematics. In her job as an editor, she edited an origami book, and after she retired, she co-authored Unfolding Mathematics with Origami Boxes with Arnold Tubis. Crystal and Arnold met at an origami convention in San Diego.

Crystal enjoys traveling and continues to present origami workshops for teachers throughout the country. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge of origami with fabric enthusiasts.

Arnold Tubis received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from MIT. He was a member of the faculity of Purdue University from 1960 to 2000 (including nine years as a department head) and is the author or co-author of over a hundred research papers. He now lives in Carlsbad, California, where he is a visiting fellow at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla and a consultant in the areas of auditory biophysics and the use of origami in K-12 mathematics education. He is currently working on a pilot origami-mathematics project in the Long Beach, California, school district. As an origami enthusiast since the early 1960's, Arnold has given many origami presentations and workshops focused on both the arts and mathematics, and has had his models on display in exhibitions in the United States, Europe and Japan. His other interests include travel, playing the piano and collecting and playing "strange" musical instruments.
