IntroductionMaking Canes is an ingenious method for building repetition or creating pattern. Canes are rods or tubes of shapes that create a design when sliced into a cross section. Polymer clay is a perfect material for caning as designs can be reduced, even to minute proportions. Artistic expression is a wondrous evolution and rediscovery of things seen and learned. The artistic process is an invitation to modify, substitute, change, alter, advance or reinterpret an idea. As we share and borrow ideas, we should remember that each person can contribute a personal flair or distinction to an existing design. We encourage you to utilize what you practice and delight in the joy of making canes. About the AuthorBarbara McGuire is an author, designer and artist whose diverse interests are reflected in her jewelry, paintings and art. She runs Altered Art source, a craft supply of artist's stamps and tools, and travels across the country teaching workshops. Barbara is best known for her fabulous work with polymer clay. She has written "Images on Clay" and "Images on Clay II". Her work includes the ongoing study of elements and principles of design and the spiritual fulfillment of the creative process.
