In Creative Batik you will discover how adaptable batik is. You do not have to be good at drawing or painting to produce stunning results because the wax, dyes and fabric do a lot of the work for you. The projects in this book are intended to provide a starting point from which you can develop your own ideas. Rosi Robinson explains the basic principle that wax and water resist each other which will help you gain the confidence to develop the technique further. Rosi states if she can do batik, so can you! So let's get started.

Back Cover InformationRosi Robinson shows how to create a stunning range of beautiful batik designs, patterns and pictures using a series of innovative step-by-step projects. She explores many different techniques, from making simple marks and drawing with wax, to dipping and painting with dyes, etching, cracking, discharging and more.. About the AuthorRosi Robinson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and educated in England and the USA, graduating with a BA in History from Vassar College, New York. Her interest in batik began in 1970 while at teacher training college. She is now Head of Art of Cumnar House School in Danehill, Sussex, England. Rosi has held workshops and exhibited in Canada, the USA and Europe, and traveled widely in Indonesia and China, where she studied batik, lectured and exhibited her work. Trips to Canada, Indonesia and China have influenced her subject matter, which varies widely from landscapes and seascapes to portraits and sporting scenes. Although her pictures are principally figurative, she enjoys experimenting with wax and dyes, developing ideas in more abstract ways in cotton, silk and paper. Rosi is married with two children and lives in Sussex, but spends her summers in Nova Scotia, Canada.
