About the DesignsDecorative borders have been an integral part of the art and craft world for over 2,000 years. Stone, metal, pottery, fabrics and classic artworks have all been enhanced with borders. Each period in history has developed its own style, from the interlaced knotwork of the Celts and the wonderfully graphic motifs of the Ancient Greeks and Romans through to the intricate foliage borders of Medieval times and the flowing lines of the Art Nouveau period. Within these pages I have assembled a collection of classic border patterns, which designers, craft workers and artists can use to capture the essence of a period in time. These styles are as popular today as they have ever been and they can all be used to enhance your artwork.
