Introduction

Optical illusion art, created by such innovative artists as M.C. Escher and Salvador Dali, confuses the eye with visual paradoxes, from vibrating effects to moire patterns. Bringing together a remarkable tapestry of words and illustrations, Masters of Deception celebrates more than 400 years of the art form that defies expectation. Some of the finest and most prominent optical illusion work in a range of genres can be seen together for the first time in this unique retrospective.

About the Author

Al Seckel is the leading authority on visual and other types of sensory illusions. He lectures extensively on this topic at many of the world's most prestigious universities. He is the author of several best-selling and award-winning books on the science of optical illusions and perception. He is the author of the Brain Teasers column in National Geographic KIDS. In addition, he designs interactive galleries on illusions for science museums. He is researching the neural correlates of visual illusions at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. His home page is: http://neuro.caltech.edu/-seckel.
