IntroductionLeisure Arts is pleased to offer this quilting book as a companion to Emilie's compelling stories. Enhanced with excerpts from the novel this quilting instruction book gives the reader a glimpse of the characters created by the gifted author. With the warmth and comfort of a handmade quilt, Endless Chain - an exploration of the intricate patterns of family and community and the threads that bind them together - will envelop and welcome readers to the richness of life in the Shenandoah Valley. About the AuthorNow USA TODAY bestselling author of women's fiction, Emilie Richards recalls fondly the months she served as a VISTA volunteer in the Arkansas Ozarks. "This was the country's third poorest county," Emilie said in an interview from her Virginia home. "They had no phones, no safe water supply and no indoor plumbing. But the women created beauty out of nothing - turning scraps of old clothing and feedsacks into exquisitely beautiful quilts. The 20-year-old college student was left with a richness of experience and a love of quilting that would forever change her life and ultimately inspire a series of novels about the age-old craft. Emilie went on to finish her undergraduate degree in American studies and her master's in family development. She served as a therapist in a mental health center, as a parent services coordinator for Head Start families and in several pastoral counseling centers. Now a full-time writer, Emilie has drawn on these experiences while crafting more than 50 novels. In Endless Chain, Emilie's July 2005 hardcover novel, quilting serves as an activity that binds a community together in two parallel stories about human rights. Two pattern books, Quilt Along with Emilie Richard, Wedding Ring and Endless Chain, offer Emilie's fans a chance to create their own versions of the quilts in her novels.
