Borderland in Butternut & Blue offers a new perspective on the Civil War with each block dedicated to a woman whose life was touched by the conflict on the Kansas/Missouri border. Barbara Brackman, using reproduction fabrics that hark back to the 1860s and the color tones of butternut and blue, remind us of the uniforms of the soldiers who engaged in battle.

Back Cover InformationA beautiful array of blocks is set on point in a sampler quilt reminiscent of the Civil War. Using reproduction fabrics that hark back to the 1860s, the color tones of butternut and blue remind us of the uniforms of the soldiers who engaged in battle. This book offers a new perspective on the Civil War with each block dedicated to a woman whose life was touched by the Kansas/Missouri border About the AuthorBarbara Brackman has been writing about history since the 1970s. She grew up in Johnson County Kansas, and moved to Lawrence when she went to college at the University of Kansas. The Victorian town with its Civil War history captured her heart and she has lived there (with a few big city breaks) ever since. Quilt history is her profession and local history is another passion. She's served as consultant for several museum exhibits on both, written quite a few books on quilts, in particular about quilts and the Civil War. She was the local history consultant when Ang Lee filmed Ride With the Devil in Kansas City, his movie about the border was starring Tobey Maguire and Jewel. For Star Books, she has written Women of Design: Quilts in the Newspaper and Prairie Flower: A Year on the Plains. She also designs reproduction fabrics for Moda®
