Back Cover Information

Pam Holland's Celebrated Recreation of an Incredible Battlefield Quilt

" When I first saw Pam Hollands's 1776 I was blown away by the colors, textures and amazing detail in the design. Using a simple, easy-to-learn technique, Pam makes it possible for anyone to replicate the picture windows in the original quilt, or to create entirely new story quilts of their own. Incredible." Kaye England, quilt designer, author, teacher and historian

"Pam Holland's inspired designs have delighted the quilt world. Now we can delve more deeply into one of them, 1776. This outstanding quilt swept Best in Show at multiple venues, including International Quilt Market, Quilt Festival, and AQS. It is a fabulous work inspired by a photograph of a little-known antique quilt in a museum in Germany. Welcome to The 1776 Quilt" Jackie Robinson, Animas Quilt Publishing

" There were a lot of oohs and aahs when I first saw 1776- and what a treat it was to hear the quilt's story told by its creator. Pam Holland's interpretation of this classic work illustrates laudable attention to detail and a successful use of modern fabrics and techniques. I am certain that those who share in the story of Pam Holland's quilt will enjoy their journey." Janet Rae, quilting instructor, author of Quilts of the British Isles.

Author Pam HollandAbout the Author

Pam Holland was catapulted to international quilting fame when 1776 swept Best in Show at four major US quilt shows and unprecedented achievement for a reproduction quilt. She immediately became one of the most sought-after teachers on the national scene, growing a successful teaching career in Australia, Europe and Japan. Pam Holland's love for fabric has been a lifelong affair. Learning the basics of sewing as a child, for many years she partnered in a successful fashion-design business while raising her children in Southern Australia. She discovered quilting as an antidote to grief, after the loss of her daughter. On her journey to recovery, she began making 1776.

Today Pam Holland teaches quilting around the world. She was awarded the prestigious Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for International Quilt Teachers by the International Quilt Association, served as an artist in residence at Osaka International School in Japan, and has been nominated for Teacher of the Year by The Professional Quilter

A quilter, designer, quilt-show judge, and appraiser, Pam Holland is also the mother of fifteen biological and adopted children. She lives in South Australia. The 1776 Quilt is her first book.
