From the Editor

A little background: My life is a crazy quilt. What with catering to my family, freelance editing, Sunday school teaching, way too many volunteer jobs - it's downright hectic around here. I always need a gift in a hurry and I don't want to shop 'til I drop. Skinny Quilts to the rescue. Each gift is personalized in the recipients' favorite colors and customized to fit a particular table or space. The new owners love to show off their Skinny Quilts, placing them in the most public areas of their homes, unlike a quilt that's hidden away in the bedroom.

So the topic for the book was a no-brainer and planning was a cinch. I simply asked my favorite quilters and fabric artists, all well-loved teachers and designers, to each create a Skinny Quilt that reflects their unique style. I was absolutely wowed by their response, and felt inspired to toss in a design of my own.

Whether you are a begginner or an experienced quilter; a piecer or a devotee of applique; take your quilt designs straight up, go for tradition with a twist, or submit to arty adventures, this book has something for you. Eleanor Levie had a happy childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, despite being painfully skinny. Since 1978 she has worked as a needlework and crafts editor, author and book producer with quilting as a specialty. Elly is also a quilter herself - one who has had many chances to learn from the experts while she edits their books and chapters! She has a passion for inspiring new and experienced quilters to try new techniques and to appreciate quilts as art and as craft. She presents lectures and workshops on innovative themes and techniques to guilds and museum groups.
