Author Janet HawksAbout the Author

Janet Hawks is a fiber artist who grew up in a family that created clothing and decorative items by knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her exposure to and interest in fibers started early as she rode piggyback while her mother sewed on a treadle sewing machine. At age 6 Jane learned to knit, she was sewing all her own clothing by 15, and at 17 she learned to weave. These interests led her to a degree in occupational therapy from the University of Kansas and a career in rehabilitation medicine, which involved adapting craft activities to improve strength, coordination and stamina in patients affected by neurological and muscular injuries.

Janet has also taught classes in Seminole patchwork and sewing with knits. She still does sew, weave and quilt, but her current passion is sculpted threads.
