Back Cover InformationTalented textile artist Helen M. Stevens captures countryside scenes through the course of a year with breathtaking detail, from the morning dew on spring flowers to the bleak stillness of the winter sky. This fully revised and extended edition contains four new practical masterclass projects, providing the opportunity to replicate Helen's original designs with step-by-step color photographs and detailed artworks clearly showing the work in progress. Each captivating scene is accompanied by comprehensive information on threads, fabrics, color, stitches and silk shading, making this the perfect guide and inspiration for the nature-loving embroiderer. From the AuthorI hope that you will enjoy reading this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it. In the time since I first 'gave up my day job' and became a professional art embroiderer - and I have recently celebrated my Studio's 25th anniversary - two questions have been put to me over and over again: where do I get my inspiration and where did I train? Both have simple answers: everywhere and nowhere! Each of the four Masterclasses - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter - are composites of motifs in the foregoing chapters. If you have never enjoyed this type of embroidery before, you will find that all the techniques are clearly described in the Stitch Variations Section. As you work your way through the projects remember that you are being treated as adults, not four-year-olds. Not every tiny field of color is annotated on the color charts, nor every decision made for you. These are your artworks and should reflect something of your own personality, inspiration and accomplishment. The Embroiderer's Countryside was my 'first born' and will always have a special place in my heart. I offer it to you in this new format with love, with thanks for my existing enthusiasts' continued and much appreciated loyalty and in the hope that it will find a place in the affections of new and future readers.
