Meet the Author

Design is such a part of our daily lives that many of us don't even notice it at all. For me, it seems to be all that my eyes notice anywhere I go! When I was a little girl, I remember noticing how flower petals separated into complementary colors as they opened. I remember being fascinated by graphic design and had great fun experimenting with graphics in high school. As an adult, that every-aching passion for design has found a home in the world of textiles. I have spent years now delighting in textiles of many kinds and styles and I have developed a deep and steadfast love for vintage textiles and quilts.

When I bought my first small, antique quilt at a garage sale, I fell in love with the art of quilting. But when I made my first simple quilt, I fell in love with the process of quilting itself. I knew that there was something about the creation and history of quilting that spoke to the deepest part of me.

For me, quilting is a perfect combination of art and practicality. As I work, I can be totally creative, engrossed in the aspects of design, of color palette, of proportion. At the same time I am aware that I am being totally utilitarian, knowing that what I create can be used not only as a piece of art but also as something to keep someone warm. Designing the actual fabrics that I am sewing with is a pleasure that I cannot begin to put into words. I truly am in a unique position where I get to start each quilt project from the very beginning, the fabric itself, to create the result I am imagining.
