About the Author

Deborah Hearn has enjoyed quilting for more than twenty-five years, ever since the day she stopped by a friend's house and saw a quilt on every bed. She was so inspired that she went home and started a Grandmother's Fan quilt for her daughter. As soon as the quilt was finished, Deborah says, her three sons were waiting in line for her to make quilts for them, too.

Years ago, a friend asked her to teach quilting to a group of women. She agreed, and each of the ladies made a Log Cabin quilt. That event proved to be so much fun that it inspired Quilt-in-a-Weekend retreats in the communities where she has lived for the past eighteen years. They now have more than one hundred women attending the annual retreat, which is not only a time for quilting and friendship, but also a time to encourage each other spiritually. Deborah's book, Weekend Quilts and Pillows, filled the need for easy projects with interesting designs that can be pieced in eight hours or less. This book, Cuddle-Up Quilts, came into being with the encouragement and help of her daughter and daughter-in-law.

When she and her family moved to Montrose, a community in the Endless Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania, Deborah was pleasantly surprised to find that it was the home of a quilt publishing company. She worked there as an editor and the pattern writer for Quiltworks Today and Miniature Quilts magazines for nine years. Later, she freelanced for the Quilter and Fabric Trends, magazines published by All American Crafts, Inc. In 2006 Deborah produced her first fabric line, Pennsylvania Bluestone, with Windham Reproductions. She is currently editor of a nationally distributed quilt magazine.
