Introduction

For quilters, Christmas is the one season that is timeless. In January, quilters are already getting a jump on their gifts for the next holiday season.

This is a topsy-turvy book, because it reflects who the authors are as designers—on one side the projects are shown in Heather's folksy style and on the other side are Elissa's bright colors. Techniques and patterns for making the projects are found in the center of the book.

About the Authors

Elissa Willms started quilting when she was seven years old when her mom, Heather, ordered a block of the month for her through the mail. Elissa has always been attracted to the color and design aspects of quilting, and she loves working with bright colors most of all.

In 2004, when Elissa was fifteen years old, she talked her mom and dad into letting her open Hopscotch Quilt Shop. She enjoys working in the store and helping customers pick fabrics and patterns for their projects. As Hopscotch Quilt Shop grew, Heather became a more active partner in the business. The shop is a reflection of the two designers, because half of the shop is stocked with dark primitive bolts and the other half is full of vibrant, bright fabrics.

Heather Willms has loved fibers and textiles since she was a child. She began sewing on her mom's old Baycrest sewing machine, starting with doll clothes, a pillowcase and pillows. Her great-great grandmother was a gifted seamstress and although Heather's mom feels that the sewing gene skipped her, some of that talent seems to have rested with Heather.

Owning the quilt shop and working with Elissa has pushed her into the world of design. She is always amazed at how she and Elissa can use the same pattern and end up with totally different quilts. As they look forward from this book to future designs, they are both excited about dabbling a new fibers and thread.

Heather lives with her husband, Lorne and their dog, Chloe, in Coaldale, Alberta, Canada. Her son, Oliver, attends a local college and lives nearby. When she is not quilting, Heather enjoys teaching fifth grade, reading and hiking with Lorne.
