About the Author
Philomena Durcan has been involved in quilting
for over twenty years. She introduced Celtic Design to the quilt
world in 1980 with the publication of her first book, Celtic
Quilt Designs. Since that time she has presented lectures and
workshops throughout the World on her interlace and spiral designs,
as well as on the Bias Bar technique of Applique.
More recently her fascination with floral art has led to the technique
of "Painting" with Fabric. Her work has been exhibited
nationally and internationally in numerous museums and shows. Philomena
was greatly influenced by her mother, who taught lace-making in
Ireland many years ago. Carrying on the family tradition, she has
managed to combine her Irish heritage with needlework skills to
develop a new and unique concept of fabric art. Philomena lives
in Sunnyvale, California, where she owns and operates the Celtic
Design Co. and continues to explore new horizons of Celtic design.
