About
the Authors
Jennifer Rounds jumped into quilting feet first without tools or
significant knowledge of the craft. In her first quilt, she used
old record-album covers as templates and pieced chintz florals.
She acquired a rotary cutter and a straight edge by the time she
made her second quilt, but she used her kitchen cutting board instead
of a rotary mat. Jennifer has since become far more sophisticated,
and much kinder to her equipment. She designs and makes quilts by
commission and includes a major Northern California hospital among
her clientele. Jennifer has written the "Feature Teacher"
column for The Quilter magazine since 1999 and is also a
contributor to Fabric Trends. A Dozen Roses is her
fifth quilting title and her third collaboration with Catherine
Comyns. Outside of quilting, Jennifer writes feature articles about
fitness as well as home and design, does freelance copywriting,
and handles domestic policy for her husband, teenage sons, and family
dogshe maintains serenity with large doses of ballet and Pilates.
Jennifer's favorite rose is "Peace.
Catherine Comyn's first sewing project was a dress for her little
sister. A bossy eight-year-old, she plunked her sibling on top of
a length of seersucker and traced a pattern for an A-line sheath,
which she tacked together with running stitches. Everybody loved
her inventiveness, but to her disappointment, there was no runway
debut at Sunday services. Undaunted by the mixed reviews, Catherine
kept sewing and found a true passion for sewn crafts. Even with
a marriage to her high school beau, a career as a neonatal nurse,
and raising two daughters, Catherine has always made time for quiltmakingalthough
part of the attraction is her addiction to the smell of hot pressed
cotton infused with her homemade scented sizing. Now retired from
nursing and an empty nester, Catherine judges quilt shows and enjoys
quilting and knitting for her loved ones.. Beyond her crafts, Catherine
volunteers for local causes, pursues studies in psychology, French,
and yoga, and mothers Phoebe the Wonder Cat. "Sterling Silver"
is her favorite rose.
