Author Karen EckmeierAbout the Author

Karen seems an unlikely personality for making waves. After all, her quilting students consistently rate her as the sweetest, calmest, most nurturing teacher they know. But to drop in on any of her workshops, it is impossible not to notice the swirl of activity. Nor can one ignore the squeals of delight emitted over the fabulous compositions that every single participant creates using this internationally acclaimed teacher's failproof techniques.

Her approach to making waves has had many names. The first time it appeared in 2000 as "Topstitched Curves," a chapter in the Rodale's Successful Quilting Library volume called Innovative Piecing. Later that same year, Karen's article, "Topstitch Piecing: A Recipe for Free-Form Curves," appeared in American Quilter magazine. A couple of years later, she realized the allure of little landscapes that often occurred accidentally with this technique, and the best selling pattern series and book Accidental Landscapes™ sprang onto the scene.

Karen has another side to her quilting - as an award winning fiber artist. She enjoys gardening, reading, photography and traveling with her husband Walter. When they aren't exploring new territory they can be found in their dream house amidst the waves of verdant hills in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut.
