the Author
In 1972, Marti Michell's patchwork hobby suddenly emerged as a
patchwork kit business. For nearly 14 years, Yours Truly, Inc.,
a premiere company in quiltmaking and fabric crafts, was owned
by Marti and her husband, Richard. In 1985, the company was
sold and Marti began writing books and designing fabrics, patterns
and tools for several major companies in the quilting industry.
At the 1991 International Quilt Market in Houson, Marti's efforts
and successes were recognized by her peers. She was selected to
receive the first Michael Kile Award of Achievement, "honoring
commitment to creativity and excellence in the quilting industry."
Marti is internationally recognized as an author, teacher and innovator
of strip techniques and rotary cutting methods. She can cut nearly
any straight-sided geometric shape with a good acrylic ruler and
a rotary cutter. That did not prevent her from falling in love with
the concept of actual-size acrylic templates for rotary cutting.
From Marti Michell Perfect Patchwork Templates were introduced
in 1995.The Michells have two grown children, Jeff, a computer engineer,
lives with his family in Seattle, WA, and Stacy, a quilting industry
entrepreneur, owns Shades Hand Dyed Textiles and lives in Atlanta,
GA. Richard and Marti are currently enjoying pet-free living in
Atlanta.
In 2004, Marti was proud to be designated as the Silver Star
Honoree by Quilts, Inc. She was the eleventh recipient.
