Doodling Templates are perfect for the person who is looking to add variety and interesting detail to their fabric or paper collage projects. With four sizes of Doodling Templates to select from, both fiber artists and scrapbookers are experimenting by combining a variety of different shapes and sizes to stencil with. Use with your favorite fabric pens, inks, stamp pads and more to doodle the hours away. These sturdy plastic stencils are versatile and easy to use. Doodling Templates are easy to keep clean, just wipe with StazOn immediately after each use.

Doodling Templates are a lot of fun to play with, and will add some real pizzazz to your fabric or paper collage projects with a little imagination and creativity. Chose from a variety of dots, circles, swirls, flowers, floral vines, paisley, and more. Be bold and daring.

Doodle Templates come in four sizes. Selected templates come only in 8.5" x 11" or 4.25" x 5.5". However, all the 12" x 12" templates are also available in a new smaller size of 6" x 6". This is great for mixing and matching, both sizes and shapes, to create endless varieties of patterns and textures.

How to use the Doodling Templates

Doodling Templates are fun to use and by experimenting, you can get the most original designs. We recommend you continue to experiment, to determine what combination of products and techniques work the best for you. Below are several easy ideas to get you started.

Chose a shape to experiment with - such as the arrows in the example at the left.
First, trace some arrows on your fabric or paper, using any fabric markers permanent pens, such as Fabrico Dual Tip Markers Tsukineko, Copic Pens Dual Tip Markers, Permawrite II, Yasutomo BLACK, FabricMate Dual Color Markers, Yasutomo, or Fabric Mate Chisel Tip Markers, Yasutomo.
Now, choice a second design and trace within the arrows. The more designs you choice, the more original it becomes. With a little experimentation, the more creative your projects will become.
To keep your Doodling Templates clean, wipe in between color changes with Staz-on All-Pupose Cleaner to avoid discoloration or bleeding.

Doodling with All-Purpose Tsukineko Inks and Shaving Cream

Tsukineko inks and Shaving Creams are great to use with your Doodling Templates. More detailed instructions can be found in the QuiltArt: Fun with Shaving Cream DVD

Chose a shape to experiment with such as the mini flowers in the example at the left.
First, squirt a glob of shaving cream on a blotter.
Next, using an syringe or eyedropper, put a couple drops of ink in the shaving cream
Swirl the shaving cream with a stir stick, until the color has a light to dark marbling effect
Position your stencil on your fabric/paper, and using a dauber, fill in the area within the stencil. Keep daubing until you reach the desired color.
Move your stencil to another place and repeat.
Use your lightest colors first and then lap over with your darker color, to apply shading and depth.

VersaCraft Stamp Pads with daubers (see below) and rubbing stencils, are another way to use your Doodling Templates.

Chose a shape to experiment with.
Position your stencil on your fabric/paper, and using a mini dauber and a stamp pad, fill in the area within the stencil. Keep daubing until you reach the desired color.
Now, place a rubbing stencil behind the fabric and reposition your stencil back in place, being careful to align it perfectly.
Using a second, darker color daub ink within the stencil area to acheive the "textured" look in the example at the left.
Move your stencil to another place and repeat.
Use your lightest colors first and then lap over with your darker color, to apply shading and depth.

Now you are ready to use your Doodling Templates and combine paint techniques and mediums. We recommend you continue to experiment to get the most original designs.

To make interesting background effects, use the shaving cream method with Tsukineko inks (see below), and the jumbo dauber (see below) to blotch color onto your background fabric/paper until you achieve the look you want.
Chose several shapes to experiment with. NOTE: See the examples at the left.
Position your stencil on your fabric/paper, for a more dramatic look, use a colored pen and trace the outline of the stencil. Then begin to fill it in.
Use your lightest colors first and daub only parts of the stencil area.
Now, using a slightly darker color, daub the areas you skipped over.
Keep applying layers of color, until you reach the desired effect of shading and depth.
